Let’s take a look at the Taiwan Pavilion.

Pavilion Features
Taiwan will invite people to fly lanterns for good luck – a traditional island custom – and view its beautiful mountains and lakes at its pavilion. The pavilion showcases the island’s scenery, its kind-hearted people and culture with the theme “Mountain, Water, Heart and Lantern.” There will be a dome theater in the pavilion showcasing high‐tech advancement, urban development and unique cultures of the minorities in Taiwan.
Sorry, I did not find English version.)
External Pavilion
At first glance, the 658‐square‐meter pavilion will resemble a transparent cube housing a 12‐meter‐wide ball in its center, but it has rich cultural meanings. The shape of the pavilion symbolizes a lantern named Kong Ming (光明), a popular emblem of health and happiness in traditional Taiwanese culture. The pavilion will be made of steel and glass, with its facade decorated with the ridge lines of Taiwan’s mountains —-Mount Morrison (also called Mount Jade) and Mount Ali. The main part of the pavilion was built with stone from Jade Mountain and soil from Yin-Ko Town (鶯歌鎮).
The globe will be suspended over a pool of water collected from Taiwan’s Sun Moon Lake. The chief designer of the pavilion is C. Y. Lee (李祖原), famous for also designing one of the tallest skyscrapers in the world, the Taipei 101. Though being the last to start construction so far, the pavilion is expected to attract about one million visitors upon its completion in March next year.
Pavilion Theme
The pavilion theme “Mountain, Water, Heart and Lantern” (山水心燈)will be intertwined with exhibits designed to echo the Shanghai Expo theme, “Better City, Better Life.”

Urban Best Practices Area
Besides the pavilion, Taiwan will have several other exhibits on display during the Expo. Two exhibits on urban wireless connection and recycling will appear in the Urban Best Practices Area, a platform for the exhibition of creative innovations that can improve urban life quality.
When I first saw the name “Taiwan Pavilion” I was surprised that it is not called “Chinese Taipei Pavilion.” And it also situated on a great location. It reflects improving diplomatic relations with China. And from many articles, I also found that the government’s efforts to promote itself during this event. And also many huge Taiwanese company support this pavilion. They use “Yushan Sponsors“,”Alishan Sponsors“,”Hehuanshan Sponsors”and “ Yangmingshan Sponsors” to classfy how much they support, it a good idea.
Hoping that by this exposition, more people could know the beauty and amazing parts of Taiwan.
